Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Golf Challenge, Inc.
has set out to positively impact the lives of diverse populations to include growing the game of golf for youth (boys and girls).  Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Golf Challenge, Inc. is focused on providing high-level Junior Golf camps and youth golf clinics with premier pre-college golf information and training for the student-athlete. Founded in 2020, Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Golf Challenge, Inc. established the Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Collegiate Scholarship Program (CSP) as financial aid designed to encourage high achieving junior golf members and underrepresented students who are pursuing higher education at a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

General

The Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Collegiate Scholarship Program (CSP) offers financial aid to underrepresented students who are pursuing higher education at a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).  Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Golf Challenge, Inc. Foundation will award one (1) $1,500.00 (or up to the amount when funds are available) scholarship to one (1) deserving recipient.  The scholarship can be used for tuition, fees, books etc. as the applicant deems necessary. Applications will be reviewed by an independent committee consisting of the BHT Board of Directors and three members from our advisory committee- “Friends of the Board”.  All decisions of the committee will be final.  Applicants will be notified of their status by electronic email by no later than June 15 of the year submitted.  All scholarship award funds will be made directly and electronically to the applicant.

Eligibility

The BHT Collegiate Scholarship Program (CSP) competition is open to eligible BHT Junior Golf members. All applicants must adhere to rules and policies governing the  BHT Collegiate Scholarship Program (CSP).   The recipient must be enrolled full-time at an accredited HBCU institution of higher learning, or in the case of high school seniors, must be accepted at an HBCU institution for the next academic year.  Graduating high school seniors must include a letter of acceptance with the application.  To qualify, applicants must be:


Special Military Reservist Exception Rule:
If the applicant is currently serving or will serve in any branch of the military as a reservist, they are eligible if they are enrolled in a minimum of 3 credit hours per every 9 weeks at an accredited institution of higher learning, technical school, or online program prior to being accepted into a HBCU.

Family Member Rule:  Applicants related to the families of the BHT’s Board of Directors and Advisory Committee members (Friends of the Board) are eligible for this program, however the directors and/or advisory committee members may not  participant in the selection process.

Essay Requirements

Black Heritage Tour (BHT) Golf Challenge, Inc. pledge ourselves to the mission and vision statement by adhering to our core values—Integrity, Commitment, Excellence, Responsibility, Self-Respect, Trust and Service.  Our core values which are the building blocks for our programs such as the golf clinics and camps, supports what we believe in as we grow the game of golf, develop quality partnerships on a daily basis to offer scholarships and lastly commit to the relentless pursuit of developing a world-class junior golf tour that would be inclusive of underserved boys and girls.

The applicant must submit an original essay of 300 to 500 words on the topic related to BHT’s core values.  Each applicant’s essay must answer the question; “How have two of BHT’s core values impacted your life as a person and on the golf course?  The essay must be original and not previously submitted to the Collegiate Scholarship Program (CSP) for award.  Financial need is not a factor in the selection.

Criteria for Selection

Applicants will be evaluated and selected using a combination of criteria based on academic achievement, extracurricular, community involvement, and youth leadership. The following competitive criteria will be used to select the scholarship winner:

Extracurricular activities and your personal essay will help the Committee further evaluate the applicants’ interests and abilities.  Extracurricular activities should be documented by type and years involved.  Remember contributions to the community may be demonstrated by involvement in local clubs and organizations/associations.  To apply, applicants must complete the application and provide copies of the following:

Successful applicants will be announced August 10 and at the annual Awards Banquet (December).
